As we age, maintaining a healthy balance between our physical and emotional wellbeing becomes even more important. With the demands of daily life, many women over 50 struggle to prioritise their health amidst family, career, and personal commitments. From my own experiences as a pharmacist and health advocate, I’ve found that taking a holistic approach is key to living a vibrant, fulfilling life.

Here are five strategies that I share in Look Better, Feel Better, Live Better, which have helped many of my clients (and myself!) achieve true wellness.

1. Nourish Your Body with Nutrient-Rich Foods

What you put into your body plays a crucial role in how you feel, both physically and emotionally. As we age, our nutritional needs change, and focusing on foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants is essential. Leafy greens, lean proteins, and whole grains provide the fuel you need to keep your body functioning at its best. I always remind my clients to make small, manageable changes—swap out processed snacks for healthy alternatives, and you’ll notice the difference in your energy levels and mood.

2. Cultivate a Positive Mindset

The way we think has a profound effect on our overall health. A positive mindset not only helps with emotional wellbeing but also impacts how we approach physical health. In Look Better, Feel Better, Live Better, I talk about the importance of reframing negative thoughts and cultivating optimism. Whether it’s through affirmations, meditation, or visualisation, taking control of your thoughts can help you feel more empowered and in control of your health journey.

3. Stay Active with a Fitness Routine You Enjoy

Exercise is a cornerstone of good health. It doesn’t have to be intense—what’s most important is finding a type of movement you enjoy. Whether it’s yoga, walking, or dancing, the key is consistency. In my book, I share tips on building a fitness routine that fits your lifestyle. Even a short, 20-minute walk each day can make a huge difference in how you feel, improving your mood and boosting your energy.

4. Care for Your Emotional and Spiritual Wellbeing

As we age, it’s important to tend to our emotional and spiritual health, as well as our physical health. Whether through meditation, journaling, or spending time in nature, finding ways to nourish your inner self will help you handle life’s stresses more easily. One of the main points I discuss is how connected our emotional wellbeing is to our physical health, and by fostering both, we can live a truly balanced life.

5. Prioritise Rest and Self-Care

I always tell my clients that rest and self-care are just as important as eating well and staying active. Prioritising sleep, taking time for yourself, and indulging in simple pleasures all contribute to better overall health. Whether it’s a warm bath, reading your favourite book, or getting a good night’s sleep, these acts of self-care are necessary to recharge and stay mentally sharp.

Taking a holistic approach to health isn’t about making drastic changes overnight; it’s about building sustainable habits that nurture your body, mind, and spirit. These five strategies can help guide you towards a healthier, more balanced life.
